John Landon Capps 98, of Henderson, NC, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late James McElree Capps and Clara Geneva Wyche Capps.

John was a longtime member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class. He proudly served in the United States Army.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Creek Baptist Church. Conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-nine years, Mattie Sue Hayes Capps; two daughters, Regina C Faulkner (David) and Letha C Cawthorne (Glenn); one son, John L Capps Jr (Donna); five grandchildren, Landa Sue, Lee Capps (Daniell), Ben Capps, Callie Faulkner (Hunter) and Houston Cash (Shayla); six great grandchildren, Mason Capps, Madison Capps, Waylon Capps, Holden Cash, Hayden Cash and Liam Satterwhite; one sister, Louise Straney; two brothers, Jerry Capps (Cynthia) and Julian Capps (Kay); as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna K Capps; one sister, Edna Sanders; and two brothers, Cecil Capps and Conly Capps.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Capps Jr, Lee Capps, Ben Capps, Houston Cash, David Parham and Hunter Satterwhite.

The family will receive friends in the family life center immediately following the service. At other times they will be at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Poplar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1371 Poplar Creek Rd, Henderson, NC, 27537.
