John Edward Newborg
John Edward Newborg, 66, of Henderson, NC, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, at Senior Citizen's Home in Henderson.
Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Robert Newborg and Lois Sawyer Newborg.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, closer to his next birthday.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Bradshaw (William); three grandchildren, Isis Peterson, Bailey Bradshaw and Jacob Bradshaw; one great grandchild; Jerry Blevins IV; one sister, Cindy Zarzycki (Walter) one brother, Robert Newborg; his best friend, soulmate and partner in crime, Roxana Bertovich, three nephews and other extended family members.
John was a unique character, loud, boisterous and animated, with a 52 inch neck on a 5ft 9in man, a real bull in a china shop. Growing up in Old Bridge New Jersey he attended Cedar Ridge High School and had a very troubled childhood. By 19 and right as he entered the military, he had a little girl. Second, only to this accomplishment, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corp.
Once he left the military, John worked at Madison Square Garden for concerts and events as security. It was there where one of his favorite stories happened. He accidentally ran into Andre the Giant, by turning and hitting him with his elbow right in the family jewels. Andre the Giant, being a good sport, patted him on the head and said "It's ok little man, it didn't hurt." From there he was extremely proud of his sobriety starting in 1988, where he met some of his closest friends. He worked for a company that serviced printing presses and owned/operated StopNGo Video in Creedmoor, NC.
He was unique in many ways. He was probably best described as a marshmallow covered in porcupine quills. His ability to fight for no reason, fight for a reason or defend simply because it was the right thing to do. He was able to see the humor in even the most serious situation.
Throughout his life he had many titles, from father to uncle to grandpa John to Poppop. He was an amazing man with the biggest heart. If you needed it and he could provide it, he would. He will be missed but is always with you.
