Joseph Macon Hart – 90 of Durham, NC, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024, at his home.
Born in Granville County, he was the son of the late Michael Herman Hart and Minnie Lee Briggs Hart. He was the widower of Nancy Lunsford Hart.
Joseph was a long-time member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was very active until recent years.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor Chapel. Conducted by the Rev. David Herman. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Pickens; three sons, Mike Hart (Karen), Mark Hart (Saundra) and Steve Hart (Jackie); seven grandchildren, Jamie Hart (Emily), Cristy Youmans (Jon), Ryan Pickens (Trish), Brandi Hart (Tyler), Samantha Beasley (Jared), Baily Tucker Hart (Patrick) and Taylor Hart; thirteen great grandchildren, Luna Tucker, Remington Beasley, Hunter Beasley, Harley Beasley, Colton Beasley, Joshua Youmans, Caleb Youmans, Ariel Pickens, Layne Pickens, Wyatt Pickens, Jaidyn Hart, Jackson Hart and Ryleigh Hart; two sisters, Becky Owen and Emma Woodlief; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Hatcher and Elvira Henley; and three brothers, Johnny Hart, Lee Hart and James Hart.
The family will receive friends at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jimmy Owen, Warren Owen, Len Hatcher, Jamie Hart, Ryan Pickens and Eddie Keith. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dan Washburn Sunday School Class.
