Joseph T. Manning Sr.

Joseph Thomas(Tommy) Manning Sr., 80, of Henderson, NC, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Maria Parham Health.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Vollie Benjamin Manning and Susie Shaw Morris Manning.

Mr. Manning was a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Betsy Powell Manning; two daughters, Rebecca Shaw Gurganus (Anthony), and Susan Jeanne Burns; three sons, Joseph Thomas Manning Jr. (Tammy), Gregory Blake Manning (Lisa), and Anthony Wayne Manning; one stepdaughter, Susan McMillan; eleven grandchildren, Brandon Thomas Manning, Megan Renee Manning, Gage Thomas Manning, Ashley Nicole Currin, Joshua Logan Currin, Tabitha Renee Currin (Steven), Blake Manning II, Abigale Kay Manning, Dalton Robert Gurganus, Avery Watson Gurganus, Adrian McMillan; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Pastor Bennie Manning (Faye), and Jimmy Manning. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, and four sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon.
