Obituary

Joyce Davis Miller departed peacefully at age 90 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on September 14, 2025. She transitioned gently in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family, just as she wished.

Joyce is survived by her three daughters and one son-in-law: Kathy and Rick Eaton of Asheville, NC, Debbie Wittenberg of Winston-Salem, NC, and Pam Bartholomew of Henderson, NC; five grandchildren along with spouses are: Bill Eaton (Marcy) of Lewisville, NC, Amy Eaton (George Suggs) of Asheville, NC, Annie Wittenberg (Emily Taylor) of Greensboro, NC, Miller Bartholomew (Justin Care) of Newport, NC, and John Wittenberg of Winston-Salem, NC; and two great grandchildren: Sutton Suggs and Thomas Suggs of Asheville, NC. Joyce's parents, ex-husband, and a son-in-law preceded her in death: Robert and Edith Davis, Webb Miller, and Brad Bartholomew.

Joyce was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and afterwards attended business school for bookkeeping. She married Webb Miller in 1954 when he was in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in San Antonio, TX. They first lived in San Antonio before settling in Henderson, NC. Joyce retired from a career as a public-school executive assistant in Vance County and soon afterwards moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1997. Joyce was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson, NC.

Joyce will be forever loved and missed by her family and dear friends. She is preceded in death by many loved ones, whom she said she would be excited to be united with again in Heaven. The greatest gift she gave to her family was to live by example. Joyce had an inexhaustible love and respect for other people. She valued kindness above all. The ripple effect of her best and brightest qualities including but not limited to her kindness, unconditional love, humility, selflessness, forgiving nature, tenderness, and patience will continue to make all who knew her better for it.

A private gathering will be held to celebrate Joyce's life. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to remember Joyce with a donation to a food bank, a charity she felt very passionate about: Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC at www.secondharvestnwnc.org, or your own local food bank.

Arrangments are by Sossamon Funeral Home of Henderson. Online condolences may be made at www.sossamonfuneralhome.com.
