Joyce Griffin Roberson, 95, of Henderson, NC passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Kerr Lake Rehabilitation Center, where she was only staying temporarily—determined, as always, to get back on her feet.
Born in Nash County, she was the daughter of the late Elias Nathaniel Griffin and Elizabeth Radford Griffin. She was the widow of Douglas Monroe Roberson.

Survivors include two sons, Russell Roberson (Sandra) and Lemuel Roberson (Avaleen); five granddaughters; five grandsons; and many other great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Joyce's love went far beyond her immediate family—she was "Granny" and "Aunt Joyce" to many, both by blood and by bond. She especially cherished her sisters and the countless friends who became like family, never missing a chance to share love, laughter, and a seat at her table. Known for her quick wit and sassy spirit, she could make you laugh just as easily as she could keep you in line.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Roberson Jr.; one daughter, Carolyn Stallings; one brother; and six sisters.

Public viewing will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 10:30–11:30 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home, Henderson. A graveside service will follow at 12 noon at Sunset Gardens, conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon. The family will receive friends afterward at Hermon Community Church, 6070 US-158 BUS, Henderson, NC.

Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family—but also a little sass, a sharp tongue when you needed it, and a whole lot of laughter. She never failed to tell it like it was, but she did it with a sparkle in her eye and a heart full of love. She could carry on a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger—and if you thought you were one, she would've proved you wrong before the day was over. Those who knew her best will carry her stories, her stubborn determination, and her quick comebacks in their hearts forever.
