Judith Diane
James
February 22, 2026
Judith Diane James, born in Oxford on July 13, 1955, was welcomed by her Lord Jesus Christ to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Judy was the thirteenth of fourteen children born to Perry Watson and Willie Belle Currin James.
Judy was a member of First Baptist Church in Creedmoor, where, as a young girl, she accepted Christ as her Savior and followed in believer's baptism. She enjoyed singing in the choir and all church activities. After graduating with honors from South Granville High School, she received a degree in Library Science from Durham College. She began her career as a Librarian at Butner Stem Elementary School and later was a Research Librarian at UNC-Chapel Hill, from which she retired. She remained an enthusiastic Tar Heel fan throughout her life.
A funeral service to honor the life of Judy will be held Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Creedmoor. Rev. Eric Mann will officiate. She will be laid to rest beside her parents, following the service at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Survivors include four sisters, Marian, Brenda, Joy and Audrey; five brothers, Kinton, Kelly, Leon, Bobby and Ronnie; thirty-five nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own and more than one hundred great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by four siblings, Wilma, Leora, Randall and Malcom.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
Flowers are kindly accepted.
Serving as pallbearers are Judy's nephews, David Marks, William Pearce, Jared Smith, Drake Cleaver, Cory Cleaver and Keegan Clark.
The siblings of Judy wish to express sincere love and gratitude to their sister, Joy, for the special care, love and support she has given our baby sister the past four years.
