Judy G. Watkins

Judy Alice Faye Grissom Watkins, 80, of Oxford, NC passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Grissom and Lillie Hyde Grissom.

Judy was a compassionate caretaker for many through the years and retired from Murdoch Center in Butner. She was a longtime member of Providence Baptist Church and attended New Horizons Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to many, she will truly be missed.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Conducted by the Rev. Cam Ford. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Jack Watkins, one daughter, Candace Pennell; one son, Ray Watkins (Tammy); three grandchildren, Kelvin Pennell, Kyle Watkins (Elizabeth Fontaine) and Zach Watkins; one aunt, Nellie Harward; two nieces, Gail Kilman and Vickie Davis; and one nephew, Bobby Watkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Grissom and Patsy Watkins.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. At other times they will be at the home of Ray and Tammy Watkins.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Watkins, Kelvin Pennell, Kyle Watkins, Zach Watkins, Randall Watkins and Todd Ellington.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Providence Volunteer Fire Department, 4631 Watkins Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
