Larry
Blackwell
February 11, 2026
Larry Edward Blackwell, 77, of Oxford passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at his favorite place in this world, his home, surrounded by those he loved the most.
Born on March 14, 1948, in Richmond County, GA, he was the son of the late Annie Lee Jones and Willis Edward Blackwell.
Larry loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandsons with all he had. He was a steadfast member of Tally Ho First Baptist Church in Stem, where he taught Sunday School for the senior adults and spread the word of God. Larry served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a hardworking man, retiring from Durham Public Schools Transportation Department after many years of service. Larry was a man who kept his hands busy. He enjoyed reading on his porch swing to further his understanding of God's word, keeping a fire going in the back yard and Sunday dinners surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Tally Ho First Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Craver will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Rachel Blackwell; one daughter, Renae Bradshaw (John); one son, Ronnie Blackwell (Crissy Cook); four grandchildren, Jessica Godfrey (Sheldon), Thomas Blackwell, Brandon Blackwell and Haleigh Blackwell (Tim Hinnant) and five great grandsons, Hunter and Jaxson Coffey and Hayden, Nathan and Noah Blackwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Pat Blackwell Smith and two brothers, J.L. Blackwell and Ricky Blackwell.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 11:30 – 1:00 at Tally Ho First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Tally Ho First Baptist Church Building Fund.
