Margaret N. Vaughan, 97, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Hillside Nursing Center.
Born on December 5, 1928, in Halifax County, Margaret was the daughter of the late Plum Nobles and Rosa Lee Harris Nobles. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Titus Vaughan; her daughter, Phyllis Vaughan Mullins; and her brothers, Ellis Ray Nobles and John Edward Nobles.
Margaret is survived by her loving daughter, Donna V. Salmi (George); son-in-law, Jerry Mullins; and her cherished grandchildren, Chris Mullins, Scott Mullins, Dustin Moye (Eleanore), Chase Moye, Christina Bullock (Robert), and Alexis Nosti (Marc), She also leaves behind nine treasured great-grandchildren.
Margaret was a devoted homemaker and a gifted seamstress whose talents blessed both her family and many others throughout her life. She lovingly made her daughter’s wedding gown, veil. And bridesmaid dresses, and when her children were young, she sewed many of their clothes by hand. She especially enjoyed making handmade bunnies to give to children and elderly residents, bringing joy wherever she shared them.
She was also a wonderful cook, remembered fondly for her delicious coconut cakes. Even after the passing of her own mother, Margaret continued the tradition of taking cakes each week to the nursing home where her mother had lived, sharing kindness and comfort with residents and staff alike.
Margaret had a lifelong love of sports and often said she would have loved to be a sports broadcaster, even during a time when women rarely had those opportunities. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Redskins and the North Carolina Tar Heels, and she especially enjoyed cheering on her daughters during their softball games.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s honor to Transitions LifeCare.
