Marvin
Averette
April 9, 2026
Marvin Haskins Averette was born September 24, 1941, to Elbert Lige and Myrtle Carolyn Haskins Averette.
Marvin graduated from Creedmoor High School in 1960 and later attended Vance-Granville Community College in 1965. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Edward Averette.
Marvin grew up farming on a tobacco and dairy farm and took over responsibilities as he got older. He worked part-time alongside his brother James at a service station and was also a member of the South Granville Jaycees, where he served as president for several years.
He later worked at Nortel for eight years, as well as Tuscarora and Revlon. He also worked as a claims adjuster for several insurance companies, specializing in hail-damaged tobacco, a job he truly enjoyed and took great pride in.
Above all, Marvin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was especially proud of his two sons, Stephen and Todd, and faithfully attended their baseball games, band concerts, and drama performances at South Granville High School.
Some of Marvin's greatest joys came from his grandchildren, who were the center of his world. He was incredibly proud to watch his grandson Blake graduate from East Carolina University and receive his Master's degree. He also celebrated with great pride as his granddaughter Sydnie graduated from the UNC Wilmington. He cherished the time he spent with his youngest granddaughter, Alye, especially when she stayed the night to offer a helping hand and during the times he was able to attend her basketball games. One of his greatest wishes was to see her graduate from UNC Charlotte.
A lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Marvin attended faithfully, served as a teller for many years, and was active on several committees. He will always be remembered for his warm heart, his quick wit, and his love of making others laugh.
Marvin is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Ann Averette; his two sons, Stephen Brooks Averette of Creedmoor and Patrick Todd Averette of Franklinton; and his three beloved grandchildren, Spencer Blake Averette, Sydnie Elizabeth Averette, and Allison Emma Averette. He is also survived by his sister Lou Helen Averette and his nephews, Edward Averette and John Paul Averette; a lifelong cousin, Mike Dickerson of Warsaw, NC; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Herman and Rev. Corey Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Marvin will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his love, his laughter, and the kindness he showed to everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor, NC, or Heartland Hospice in Raleigh, NC.
