OXFORD - Mavis Preddy Hicks passed away peacefully at Granville Health Systems on Thursday, September 3, 2026. She was born on November 7, 1938 to the late Vasser and Mamie Parrott Preddy.

She was employed with Burlington Mills in the earlier years of her life and then worked for Oxford Orphanage in Oxford, NC. She lived in Granville County her entire life and attended West Oxford Baptist Church. Mavis loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. When her health was better, she enjoyed going walking, going to dances, and listening to music.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Hicks O’Briant (Tim) of Roxboro, and her son, Kenneth Travis Hicks (Betty) of Oxford.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and three step grandchildren.

Mavis leaves behind a very dear and special friend, Jimmy Hayes of Oxford.

She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Doris P. Beard (Roy) of Raleigh, Betty P. West (Lonnie) of Oxford, and one brother, Phil Preddy (Diane) of Florida.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
