Obituary

Michael David "Spike" Hancock 29, of Oxford, NC, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Born in Granville County on January 7, 1997, he was the son of Edward Michael Hancock and Jeanne Carol Englebright Belyea.

Michael was a kind soul who loved his family dearly. He loved working on the farm with his grandfather, Robert "Tommy" Englebright, Jr. Michael cherished all the trades and lessons taught to him by "Granddad" and "Grandma".

Michael graduated from J.F. Webb School of Health and Life Sciences, and he worked in many industries with his hands always taking great pride in the work that he performed.

Growing up, Michael enjoyed playing all sports including soccer, baseball, football, basketball and golf. He was a talented athlete. During one of his seasons in football Michael was named offensive and defensive player of the year. He was talented in so many ways. He loved to fish and hunt on the land with several trophy mounts in his parents' home. He thoroughly enjoyed riding his Yamaha with his dad in his younger years and four wheeling with his friends brought him so much joy.

Most recently, Michael and his family enjoyed the snowfall riding the Ranger on the farm with their beloved dog, Badger. It was a magical day that will always be cherished in our hearts. He was so proud of the cabin that he had worked on in which his grandfather built making it his own. He and his mom would sit by the old wood stove and reminisce about their family traditions that were and will always be treasured by all.

Michael's life was a blessing and his memories a treasure.
