Myrtle A. Grissom
Myrtle Vernell Abbott Grissom, 93, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at her home.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of Lonnie J. Abbott, and Naomi Thompson. She was the widow of Calvin C. Grissom.
Mrs. Grissom was a founding member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. She was also a doll collector, gardener, and enjoyed yard sales.
Surviving are one daughter Sandra Louise Ayscue Champion; one son, Robbie Ayscue; seven grandchildren, Danny C. Champion, Clay Champion (Mary), Billy Champion, Crystal Elliott (Lee), Amanda Norwood (Eric), Sherry Ayscue, and Joshua Ayscue; fifteen great-grandchildren, Jaxan Champion, Jeremy Long, Jameson Long, Miranda Champion, Alyssa Bunton (Jerry), Dalton Elliott, Thomas Elliott, Tru'Lee Lunsford, Shianne Norwood, Madison Ayscue, John Ayscue Jr., Landon Asselta (Jeremy Long), Randy Ayscue III, Leeann Ayscue, and Selena Ayscue; one great-great-grandchild, Avery Bunton; and several nieces and nephews. Alongside her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Billie Riley, and Sally Pruitt; one son, Randy Ayscue Sr.; two grandchildren, John Ayscue Sr., and Randy Ayscue Jr.; one great-grandchild, Devin Elliott; one sister, Virginia West; and three brothers, Furman Abbott, Robert Abbott, and Raymond Abbott.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at the Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Matthews. Interment will immediately follow the service at Sunset Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 1-2:00 p.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Champion, Billy Champion, Joshua Ayscue, Jay Causey, Kirk Elliott, and Jason Elliott.
