Nancy Barham Alford
Nancy B. Alford, 85, of Stem passed away peacefully Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC.
Born in Wake County on February 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Calvin W. Barham and Beulah J. Perry Barham.
Nancy eventually made Stem, NC her home and lived there for over forty-five years. She was a dedicated employee at Northern Telecom in Creedmoor, NC. Upon retirement from Nortel, Nancy and her husband, Eugene, of thirty-four years, owned and operated a convenience store in Stem, N.C., where she also served two terms as the town's mayor.
As an avid collector, she enjoyed antiques, Lenox China, Barbies, Snowbabies and Beanie Babies among many other collectibles. Nancy also loved to travel, both nationally and abroad. She visited many places including Austria, Holland, Germany and France, to name a few.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel of Creedmoor. Rev. Johnny Yount will officiate.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Eugene Wheeler; one son, Ricky T. Alford (Jackie); one daughter, Nita Alford Wilson; four grandchildren, Chris Alford, Brandy Alford, Heather Wilson Metcalf and Amanda Wharton; seven great grandchildren, Bradly Alford, Sierra Alford, Kayla Alford, Summer Metcalf, Christopher Riley II, Trey Riley and Jayce Riley; five great-great grandchildren, Ethan, Liam, Adalyn, Reese and Leighlen. Eugene's children, Derek Wheeler, Teresa Wheeler Miller; his grandchildren, Erica Swanson (Matt) and Leah Ashley Miller and his great grandchildren, Winston and Sutton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ollie T. Alford Jr.; one grandson, Matt Miller and nine brothers and sisters.
Nancy was one of a kind and will be remembered and missed by many.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford.
