Joseph Nelson Freeman, 84, of Creedmoor NC, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 25, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Nelson was born on September 17, 1938, and was the only son of the late Joseph Raymond Freeman and Helen Jones Freeman.
He met his sweetheart, Linda, at Creedmoor High School and they married in 1959. He joined the North Carolina National Guard and retired in 1998 after forty-two years, six months and twenty-eight days of service. From Private to Master Sergeant, from warehouse worker to State Budget Analyst, his faithful service won him the respect of fellow guardsmen and gave him friends that would last a lifetime.
Nelson led a life of service to the Lord. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served in many capacities, including Sunday School Director and deacon as well as multiple committees. He loved the Lord, his church family, good food, NC State Wolfpack and almost any sport shown on television!
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church officiated by Reverend David Herman. Burial will follow in the Old Creedmoor Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Linda Bennett Freeman of Creedmoor, NC; son, Scott (Tina) of Creedmoor, NC; daughter, Tracy Vest (Hugh) of Yorktown, VA; granddaughter, Delaney Wolf (Reese) of Yorktown, VA and grandson Connor of Creedmoor, NC. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Luke Scott Vest.
The family will receive friends, Monday, May 29, 2023, from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
