Otha Piper, Jr., 80, of Kittrell passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

Born in Louisburg, NC on August 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Otha Piper Sr. and Lector Mae Bailey Piper.

Otha honorably served two years in the United States National Guard and ten years in the Reserves. He started his working career doing lawn care for neighbors at a young age and later worked at the cotton mill, Altec, Walmart and was a supervisor at Diazit for forty years. Otha helped start the Creedmoor Rescue Squad and was on the Butner Rescue Squad for thirty years. He was the Mayor of Creedmoor for ten years and served as a Creedmoor City Commissioner for sixteen years. He was also a member of the Gideons and Lions Club for many years. Otha's faith was strong with a heart full of love for the Lord, his family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor. Reverend Frank Sossamon will officiate. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Robert E. Piper and his wife Barbara of Roxboro; one daughter, Tara N. DeClue of Creedmoor; one stepdaughter, Kim G. Jones of Mt. Pleasant; the love of his life, Christine Inscoe Piper of Kittrell; eight grandchildren, Ashley N. Piper of Roxboro, Haley R. Briggs of Oxford, Adam DeClue of Wilton, Aaron G. Piper of Roxboro, David M. Tuck of Roxboro, Jayden L. DeClue of Creedmoor, Kayla M. Jones of Mt. Pleasant and Savannah L. Jones of Mt. Pleasant; two great grandchildren, Maison K. Keith and Kynslee R. Keith, both of Oxford; the mother of his children, Diana Yancey; two brothers, Wallace E. Piper and wife Bobbie of Garner and Dennis L. Piper and wife Brenda of Creedmoor and one sister, Edna M. Brown and husband Steve of Creedmoor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Janey A. Piper.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor. All other times they will be at the home of Christine Piper in Kittrell.

Pallbearers for the service will be Adam DeClue Jr., Aaron Piper, David Tuck, Jayden DeClue, Daniel Morris and Kent Inscoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley N. Piper and Haley R. Briggs.
