Paul N. Daeke Sr.

Paul Norman Daeke Sr., 98, of Henderson, NC, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late William F. Daeke and Matilda Lauderback Daeke. He was the widower of Maxine Evelyn Moore Daeke.

Mr. Daeke was the second oldest member at the First Presbyterian Church. He was valedictorian of his graduating class at Henderson High. He served as a rifleman in the U.S. Army, and in the Occupational Forces in WWII. Later in life, Mr. Daeke worked at Mt. Hope Finishing Company, Nu Southern Dyeing & Finishing Company, CertainTeed, where he retired from, and Daeke Electrical Company. In his spare time, he enjoyed repairing and refinishing antique clocks, and collecting Henderson memorabilia, especially post cards.

Surviving are two sons, Paul N. Daeke Jr., and Gary D. Daeke (Scarlett); two grandsons, Adam M. Daeke, and Aaron J. Daeke; one sister, Lillian Hamlin; and several nieces and nephews. Alongside his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Neil A. Daeke; two sisters, Trudy Abbott, and Eva Mae Turner; and three brothers, Fritz Daeke, Walter Daeke, and Lennie Daeke.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Matthew Copple.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 1-2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 726 Henderson, NC  27536.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, those planning to attend the service are asked to adhere to all CDC guidelines by wearing a face covering of some sort, and to practice social distancing.
