Paul Washington Parrish 95, of Henderson, NC, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Parrish and Ann Ray Parrish. He was the widower of Mary Ann Abbott Parrish.
Paul retired from the US Postal after 39 years of service. He also was a substitute teacher with the Vance County School system for 20 years. He was a mason and affiliated with the TPA. He was a former member of Tabernacle Baptist church where he was a Sunday school teacher and was a current member at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Lee (Rivers); one son, George Parrish (Charlotte); three grandchildren, Heather Barker (David), Mary Lee Flowers (Tim), and Brenden Lee; and seven great-grandchildren, Chase Barker, Sarah Barker, Avery Barker, Drew Barker, Claire Barker, Luke Barker, and Christopher Flowers. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Abbott Parrish; one sister, Ruth Newton; and one brother, Willard Parrish.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the staff at Kerr Lake Nursing Home, as well as to Henry Williamson, Pastor Frank, Pastor Tim, Thomas Simmmons, the late Morris Wilson, and Cookie. They would also like to thank his previous caretakers, Gail Hawkins, Cynthia Hawley, and Wendy Small.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson, conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon and Rev. Tim Burgess. A private interment will be held at Union Chapel Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. and at all other times at the home.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 1699 Weldons Mill Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
