Peggy Oakley Norwood

Peggy Oakley Norwood, 85, of Creedmoor went to be with her Lord and Savior to be joined with her late husband and the love of her life, Thomas, on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Granville County on April 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Oakley and Prudie Brogden Oakley.

Peggy worked at Hillhaven Convalescent Center for thirty-six years and was a faithful member of Living Word Baptist Church. She loved people and witnessing for the Lord. Peggy's greatest joy in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel of Creedmoor officiated by Rev. Mike Vaughan and Rev. Jimmy Hall. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Norwood (Anna); one daughter, Tammy Vaughan (Mike); three grandchildren, Shannon (J.D.), Bryan (Robert) and Justin; six great grandchildren, Cade, Bryn, Ella, Michael, Kolt and Eli; one sister, Margaret "Monk" Baker; one very special niece who was with her until her home going, Penny Oakley and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-three years Thomas Lynwood Norwood and one brother, Archie "Buck" Oakley.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

The family would like to extend a thank you to two special friends, Lynn Currin and Cora Ray, who loved her unconditionally and visited her daily. Also a special thank you to an angel of a nurse, Jessica, that watched over her and her family during her last hours.
