Obituary

Penny Bowling Cromer, age 63, went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2026. Born on May 15, 1963, in Person County, North Carolina, Penny was the beloved daughter of the late Henry “Popeye” Bowling and Betty Lee Tuck Bowling.

Penny was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her warmth, compassion, and infectious smile touched countless lives throughout the years.

Her greatest joy in life was being “Mimi.” She cherished every moment spent with her family and devoted herself to her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Nothing brought her more happiness than gathering with those she loved and creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Penny is survived by her loving children, Amanda Kaywood and husband Billy, and Robert “BBuck” Newton Jr. and wife Laurie. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Micheal Lane, Gavin Dean, Brandon Dean, Robert Newton III “Robbie,” Logan Newton, and Dylan Newton; and her precious great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Lane.

She is also survived by her sisters, Toni Gene Tuck and husband Dale, and Connie Dickerson and husband Chris; her nieces, Kristy Tuck and Brittany Tuck and husband Tyler; her great-nephews, Cameron Tuck, Justin Tuck, and Calvin Blalock; and her great-great-nephew, Ezra Tuck.

In addition to her parents, Penny was preceded in death by her son, Steven Newton, whom she dearly missed and could not wait to hug again and wrap her arms around, as well as her nephew, Dale Tuck Jr.

Penny’s love, strength, and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She loved playing cards, bingo, and dancing. She also loved sitting on the porch chatting with familiar faces and joking around, bringing laughter and joy to those around her. While her family grieves this tremendous loss, they find comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior and those who passed before her.

Funeral arrangements are currently being made and will be announced at a later date.

The family asks that you keep her children, BBuck and Amanda, and all who loved her in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever Mimi.

Arrangements are by Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. Online condolences may be made at www.sossamonfuneralhome.com.
