Melvin Ray Claiborne, 74, of Stovall passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at his home.
Born in Granville County on October 15, 1949, he was the son of the late Melvin Fitchell Claiborne and Dorothy Mae Beal Claiborne.
Ray was a member of Stovall Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. Reverend Johnny Yount will officiate. Interment will follow at Stovall Town Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Janet Riggan Claiborne; one daughter, Tracy Claiborne Yancey (Curtis); three grandchildren, Emily Yancey Cash (Dylan), Virginia "Jenny" Rose Yancey and Curtis "Allen" Yancey; one great granddaughter, Presley Renee Cash; two brothers, Randy Claiborne (Donna) and Warren Claiborne (Loretta) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Phil Claiborne and Ronald Keith Claiborne.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tommy Yancey, Curtis Yancey, Dylan Cash, Cole Dickerson, Phillip Claiborne and Doug Lunsford.
