William Ray McGarr, 71, of Stem passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home.
Born in Granville County on March 16, 1953, he was the son of the late Jones Asbe McGarr and Macie Mae Newton McGarr.
Ray was many things including an avid musician who loved to play the guitar and sing. He was a fan of stock car racing and was a spotter for his favorite driver. Ray was a former EMT and was a member of multiple bands. More than anything though, Ray was a devoted husband, father, grandparent, brother and friend. He honored his wedding vows by taking care of his wife during her battle with dementia. Following her passing, Ray showed the same commitment to the friends he has made in the community. Ray loved his first cruise and was looking forward to another one in August. He loved the mountains and would drive any distance to hear a favorite band play.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor Chapel. Conducted by the Rev. Johnny Yount.
Survivors include two daughters, Ashley McGarr and Renee Toler (T.J.); two sons, Kevin McGarr (Terri) and Michael McGarr (Mikaela); ten grandchildren, Chloe, Connor, Mason, Maci, Aubrie, Elisha, Avery, Chance, Gage and Connor; one brother, Larry McGarr and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Carol Carver McGarr and three brothers Roger McGarr, James McGarr and John McGarr.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor.
