Obituary

Raymond Lee Hobgood, 91, of Oxford passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.
Born in Granville County on November 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Royal Lafayette Hobgood and Lela Oakley Hobgood.
Raymond served with the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was a passionate outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. In his youth he was an active baseball player, third baseman, with an opportunity to play pro baseball. Raymond was well loved and respected by his family, friends and the community. His greatest love was for his wife, children and grandchildren who loved him immensely.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Reverend William Wheeler Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Betsy Murray Hobgood; five children, Kenneth Hobgood (Linda), Wanda Raymer (Keith), Rita Lynne Parrish, Angela Sampson and Becky Cheek (David); eleven grandchildren, Kenneth Hobgood Jr. (Christina), Tony Hobgood (Dana), Jason Hobgood (Jessica), Dustin Raymer (Christin), Casey Culin (Kris), Jessica Medlin (Jonathan), Joseph Parrish (Kayla), Kimberly Autrey (Christopher), Dylan Breedlove, Lucas Breedlove and Katelynn Wilson (Josh); twenty great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two nieces, Mary Jo Earp (David) and Cynthia Yancey (Gray); two special friends, Tommy Hobgood and Wayne Hobgood and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one great grandson, Andrew Scott Hobgood; one sister, Mary Francis Brooks and her husband, Milton and one son-in-law, Ronald Edward Parrish Jr.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral home of Oxford and other times at the home.
Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Providence Baptist Church.
