Reuben Norwood West, 53, of Oxford passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Vance County on February 2, 1973, he was the son of Phyllis Ann Abbott and Norwood Thomas West.

Reuben worked at Bandag, where he was well respected by his coworkers and friends. He was a mentor to many and loved sharing his knowledge about the things he loved. Reuben had a passion for fishing and music and could often be found singing along to his favorite songs. Above all else, Reuben's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and son. He absolutely adored his grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford with Reverend Bruce Beck officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowview Memorial Park.

In addition to his mother Phyllis, he is survived by his wife, Deana Norris West; two sons, Bryant West (Michaela) and Jakob West; two grandchildren, Ava Jane West and Cayson Brooks West; two brothers, Brian Jones (Lisa) and Keith Jones (Veronica); three nephews, Logan, Noah and Landon; his furry companion "Xena" and numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Jones.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. All other times they will be at the home of his in-laws, John and Linda Norris.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bryant West, Jakob West, Brian Jones, Keith Jones, Billy Sizemore and Winston Puryear.
