Richard Dean Foster, 74, of Stem passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at Duke University Medical Center.
Richard was born in Jackson County, Missouri on January 8, 1949 to the late Kenneth George Foster and Mildred Pearl Murphy Foster.
He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS George K. MacKenzie as a Yeoman (YN3). Richard earned numerous medals during his service with the US Navy, including a Purple Heart. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church in Durham and retired from the Granville County Sheriff's Department after many years of service.
Memorial services will be held, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Gorman Baptist Church in Durham, officiated by Pastor David Driggers.
Survivors include his wife of fifty two years, Karen Richards Foster; one daughter, April Foster Brogden (Neil); two sons, Kenneth Scott Foster and Richard Christopher Foster; two grandchildren, Savannah Sherron (Payton) and Cheyenne Spain (Camden); one great granddaughter, Rayleigh Sherron and baby Sherron on the way; one brother, Ronald Lee Foster; one niece, Debbie; four cousins, Steve, Mike, Chuck and Julie Pence (Robert) and two special companions, Gidget and Tucker.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Gorman Baptist Church.
