Richard Philmore Garrett, 95, of Oxford passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at his home.
Richard was born in Franklin County on September 16, 1928, to the late Nolan Garrett and Mabel Morton Garrett.
He was a faithful member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor. He was exceptionally talented, capable of excelling in various fields and adept at solving any problem that came his way. He was a remarkable craftsman and had a natural affinity for music, being able to effortlessly play any instrument. Additionally, he had a knack for captivating storytelling and took great pride in owning both a beautiful house and a flourishing farm. Above all, his love for his family knew no bounds and he cherished them deeply.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. officiated by the Reverend David Herman.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-five years, Effie Adcock Garrett; six children, Jenny Bowling (James), Cynthia Howell (Kimmie), Richard "JR" Garrett (Vicki), Sheila Forsythe, Randy Garrett (Suzanne) and Scottie Garrett (Kelly); thirteen grandchildren, Angela, Brian (Erica), Kimberly (Allen), Phillip (Wendy), Shannon, Travis (Morgan), Stephanie, Michael. Aimee (Alex), Trey (Sarah), Justin, Devin (Whitney) and Meghan; eleven great grandchildren, Layton, Nolan, Braden, Jaxson, Liam, Jace, Sophie, Jax, Colt, Jayce and Kashton and numerous friends and extended family. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas Garrett, Bill Garrett, Lewis Garrett, Dave Garrett and Edward Garrett.
The family wants to express their heartfelt appreciation to Helping Hands and staff, especially to Sherry, Magain and Shinnell, who went above and beyond to provide love and care for their parents. Your kindness will always be remembered.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Services at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Private burial will follow the services.
