Richard L. Harris

Richard Leonard Harris, 90, of Henderson, NC, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his home.

Born in Morris County, NJ, he was the son of the late David W. Harris and Mary Belle Miller Harris. He was the widower of Catherine Austin Harris.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson. Conducted by Rev. Johnny Yount. Interment will follow at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Harris, Mary Harris and Melissa Harris Braziel (Jeremy); one son, Richard L. Harris Jr (LuAnn); five grandchildren, Samantha Moran (Dylan), David Harris (Courtney), Breanna Braziel Cross (Michael), Ryan Braziel and Caitiln Braziel; three great grandchildren, Mickey Moran, Rosie Moran and Owen Cross; one brother, Norman G. Harris; three nieces and one nephew. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David F. Harris and Ronald W. Harris.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Watkins Volunteer Fire Department, 1590 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Henderson, NC 27537.
