Richard Lewis Taylor, 89, of Oxford passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Granville Health System.
Born on October 24, 1935, in Granville County, he was the son of the late Rives Taylor and Patty Lewis Taylor.
Richard served in the Navy as a physician during the Vietnam Conflict and retired from Oxford Family Physicians (currently Duke Primary Care) after more than thirty years of service. He was an active member of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, Granville Genealogy Society, Richard Thornton Library, and the Granville County Museum.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel of Oxford.
Survivors include one son, Lewis Taylor (Gina); two grandchildren, Kyle Taylor and Cam Champion; one sister, Martha Yeargin and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Ann Hamme Taylor and his half-brother, Rives Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Granville Historical Society or the Granville County Museum.
