Robert Leel Whirley, 81, of Oxford, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his home.

Born in Bexar Co., TX on August 31, 1944, he was the son of the late Raymond Whirley and Louise Taylor.

Robert was an avid outdoorsman and was affectionately called “Rose Man”, known for his vast rose gardens. He was a member of Celebrations Church.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. Rev. Bruce Beck will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Rebecca Spangle Whirley; one son, Brandon Whirley; one daughter, Mary Lynn Whirley and nine grandchildren, Antonio Perez-Martinez Jr., Maryann Perez, Raphael Hernandez-Aguilera, Robert Hernandez-Aguilera, Emily Hernandez-Aguilera, Isabella Hernandez-Aguilera, Michael Hernandez-Aguilera, Hector Hernandez-Aguilera and Jose Hernandez-Aguilera.
