Ronald Hugh Edwards Sr., of Butner NC went to be with the lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Brantwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long extended illness.
Ronald, age 88 was born in Burlington on April 19, 1938 to Hugh and Virginia Edwards. Ronald was the oldest of 7 children.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Virginia Edwards, one brother, Joey Edwards, and one sister, Nancy Mansfield.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettie Edwards. Four children, Ronnie Edwards (Lisa) of Butner, NC, Ginger Rutledge (Andy) of Stem, NC, Nancy “Janie” Thomas of Oxford, NC and Wayne Edwards of Haw River, NC. Ronald leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 siblings, Jenny Bunton of Oak Ridge, NC, Bobby Edwards (Betty) of Burlington, Johnny Edwards of Burlington, NC, and Ann Hudgins (James) of Butner, NC.
Ronald began his career at the age of 16 at Kayser Roth in Graham, NC. He joined the Navy in 1958 and served 4 years. He returned from his service in the Navy and continued his working career with Kayser Roth and Revlon until his retirement in 2006.
All who knew Ronald knew of his love for baseball, basketball, and most of all his beloved University of North Carolina Tarheels. He was also a devoted Atlanta Braves fan.
One of his greatest joys was working with kids. He loved coaching, umpiring, and serving on the board of SGAA. He continued working with the association until his declining health forced him to retire.
Ronald was a member of the Tally Ho Baptist Church in Stem, NC.
Services will be held at Sossamon Funeral Home in Creedmoor, NC on Monday, July 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Mike Craver & Eddie Nutt will officiate. Visitors will be received before the service from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens following the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wade Coble, Gary Byrd, Tom Currin, Arthur Harris, Chris Summerlin, and Randy Perkinson.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Tally Ho Baptist Church of Stem.
