Obituary

Roy Crawley Whitehead Jr., 73, of Oxford passed away Monday, March 2, 2026, at Maria Parham Health.

Born in Edgecombe County on May 19, 1952, he was the son of the late Roy Crawley Whitehead, Sr. and Pattie Lawrence Phillips.

After 40 years of service, Roy retired from AT&T formally BellSouth/Southern Bell in 2017. He is a member of the Oxford Baptist Church. Roy was a member of the Knightdale Jaycees and the Wendell Masonic Lodge 565. He was also the founder of the Oxford Youth Soccer Association.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oxford Baptist Church officiated by Rev. David John Hailey. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck, NC.

Survivors include his significant other and caregiver, Anne Pruitt Whitehead; two daughters, Kelly Whitehead Woodlief (Tony) and Jamie Whitehead Weathers (Matthew); one son, Roy "Trey" Crawley Whitehead III (Heather); seven grandchildren, Kadence Woodlief, Hailey Woodlief, Zach Woodlief, Maddox Weathers, Braxton Weathers, Ava Whitehead and Cade Whitehead; four sisters, Patricia Thompson (Michael), Rebecca Wade, Cindy Hinton (Billy) and Dawn Whitehead; one sister-in-law, Beth Adcock; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Thompson and George Pruitt (Beth); close family friend, Jim Cash; caregiver, Gloria Calhoun and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members as well as his previous coworkers and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, William Adcock; two sisters-in-law, Martha Thompson and Laurie Pruitt and one great nephew, Tyler Adcock.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 5, 2026, one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center at Oxford Baptist Church.
