Ruby M. Hughes

Ruby McGhee Hughes, 95, of Louisburg, NC and formerly of Henderson, NC died Friday, March 27, 2026, at Louisburg Nursing and Rehab Center in Louisburg, NC.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Florence Thomas McGhee Crews and William (Bill) McGhee.

She was a former homemaker. Her family was the greatest source of her love, especially her grandchildren.  She was an extremely hard worker and was the happiest outdoors gardening producing the most beautiful flowers in her neighborhood. Her favorite hobby was spending hours on her riding lawn mowers maintaining her immaculate yard. She loved animals and had a special connection with them, allowing her to easily earn their love and trust.  She had a giving nature and loved helping others.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa H. Ellis (Dave) and three sons, Chris Hughes (Debra), Fenner Hughes and Chuck Chambers; two grandchildren, Shellie Hughes Finch (Josh) and Brandon Hughes (Makayla); her honorary children, Gracie, Riley, Paisley, Caleb Day, Emory Richardson, Hannah Pernell Hughes (Jacob) and Josie Cardenas; one sister, Billie Ann Kanouse (Bill) and several nieces and nephews whom held a special place in her heart. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Annie Bea Coghill (Deales), Viola Robertson (Obey), Hazel Alaniz (John), Connie McGhee (Mozelle), Alexander McGhee (Doris) Jamie McGhee and Arvid McGhee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society, 165 US-158 Bypass, Henderson, N.C. 27537.

The family wishes to express a special thank you for all the compassionate care given to their mother by the Staff of Louisburg Nursing and Rehab, Louisburg, NC Darlene Wilson, PA and the Hospice Team with Liberty Medicare Advantage.
