Rufus Randolph Wynn, Sr., 93, of the Wilton community of Franklinton, N.C. passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at his home.
Rufus was born in Franklin County on May 8, 1932 to the late Paul Washington Wynn and Neva May Wynn.
He graduated from Wilton High School and proudly served in the United States Army. Upon discharge, he married the love of his life, Shirley Fuller Wynn of Creedmoor, in 1957. He co-founded Fuller & Wynn Gulf in Raleigh with his brother-in-law, John Fuller, until 1974. His longing to farm and raise cattle drew him back to the family farm, where he worked until April of 2025.
His passions in life were his faithful wife Shirley of 67 years, his family, farming and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was a faithful member of Grove Hill Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church prior to the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Reverend David Herman will officiate. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one son, Randy Wynn (Tia); one daughter, Kim Griswold (Chuck); four grandchildren, Kristy Wynn, Scott Griswold (Lindsey), Sarah Wynn (Davis) and Shannon Wynn; one brother, Howard Wynn (Nancy) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Fuller Wynn; two sisters, Anna Wynn Fuller and Betty Wynn Renn and two brothers-in-law, John E. Fuller and James E. Averett.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Wynn, Scott Griswold, Frankie Fuller, Gary Fuller, Glenn Preddy and Johnny Averett. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Strother, Al Fuller, Wyatt Fuller and Ken Griswold.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to Rufus' caretakers, Diane, Geneva, Anastasia, Sunne and Amedisys Hospice of Franklinton for the love, care and compassion shown during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Future Building Fund in Creedmoor, NC.
