Ruth Elizabeth Stehman Cannon, age 81, of Oxford, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024 following declining health. She was born on January 1, 1943, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the late Landis Stehman and Leah Richwine Myer Stehman of Lititz, Pennsylvania.
Ruth graduated from Warwick High School of Lititz, Pennsylvania and was also a graduate of Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where she majored in elementary education. She was a lifetime member of the Church of the Brethren and active up until moving to North Carolina.
Ruth was very proud of her granddaughters and loved living in North Carolina, the last four years of her life. Many individuals became special to Ruth during her time in Oxford including those from the Oxford Baptist Church, Brantwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility and Fresenius Kidney Care. Ruth's smile was beautiful and contagious. She was artistic and loved crafts. Ruth had a great appreciation for music and over the course of her lifetime played viola, piano and sang in both college and various church choirs.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Lisa Beth Cannon Radford (Steve) Oxford, NC. Two granddaughters, Megan Radford Cole (Hunter) and Jenna Radford. She leaves behind a sister Linda Boyd of Lititz, Pa. Nieces, Julie Snowden Martin, Cindy Boyd Boyer; a nephew Brian Boyd and numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters Gladys Hylton and Lorraine Snowden.
A celebration of life will be held Sat. March 16, 2024, at
2:00 pm
in the Oxford Baptist Church sanctuary officiated by Doctor Brett Pardue. A graveside service to follow at a later date in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The family will receive friends immediately following the Celebration of Life.
