Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Whitfield, born December 14, 1958, in Cooperstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and beloved dog, Hoss. She was 66 years old.
Sandy was raised on a dairy farm in rural upstate NY were she formed a strong love for animals, seemingly communicating with animals without speaking, and a passion for flowers that started with a small flower garden at age 7 that her mom helped her start. Sandy's favorite place was in her garden.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Pastor Keith Sexton will officiate.

Sandy graduated from Edmeston Central School, Edmeston, NY in 1976 at age 17 and went on to get her Associates degree in Business Administration from at SUNY Cobleskill, Cobleskill, NY. After graduating she moved to North Carolina and worked at a local printing company that gave her the opportunity to manage their Human Resources Department. This position kickstarted a 40-year career in Human Resources.
While working full time, Sandy went back to college at night and obtained her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from NC Wesleyan University at age 50.
Sandy's last position was a 15 year HR Business Partner position with Altec Industries in which she found her most rewarding work in community outreach leading the Altec Granville County United Way Campaign, annual Altec Granville County United Way projects, Altec Granville County United Way Day of Caring projects, and Altec Musical Garden at the GAP in Oxford, NC.
Sandy was a faithful supporter and member of Creedmoor United Methodist Church and enjoyed watching sports (Duke) and spending time with church friends and family.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Cornelia Higgins, sister, Karen Smith. Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Jeff Whitfield, Creedmoor, NC, brother, Jeff Higgins (Denise), of Middletown, RI, and sister Debbie Grilll (John), Franklin, Tennessee.
Through all of her medical challenges she never lost her smile, positive attitude, or her sense of humor. Her life will always be an example of abundant living to those who knew her, and her memory will always remain a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Creedmoor United Methodist Church, 14 Park Avenue, Creedmoor, NC, 27522.
