Scarlett
Ellis
December 9, 2025
Scarlett Horton Ellis, 63, of Henderson, N.C., fought a courageous battle and passed peacefully into her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at her residence in Epsom, N.C.
Born September 27, 1962, in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of Dorothy Adcox Horton and the late Bob Horton.
Scarlett was a devout Christian and a faithful member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. She retired from Vance County Schools, where she joyfully served as a Job Coach and Teacher's Assistant for more than 20 years.
Scarlett loved being near the water—whether on the lake, at the beach, or out fishing. She treasured anything that brought excitement, laughter, or a little adrenaline. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a gift for helping others in their time of need and truly never met a stranger—only a new friend. She lived life with joy, generosity, and a full heart.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. A viewing will take place prior to the service from 1:00–2:00 p.m. Services will be conducted by Pastor Frank Sossamon.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Arnold, Donald McNeal, Freddie Sanford, Marion Perkinson, Billy Ayscue, and Mike Ayscue, Jr.
In addition to her mother, Scarlett is survived by her husband, Jay Ellis; her children, Jessica Ellis (Chetna) and Jackson Ellis (Danielle); and her grandchildren, Kinsley Ellis and Jack Ellis. She is also survived by her sister, Tammy Pearce (Ricky); her brother, Robbie Horton (Lorie); her father-in-law, Jackie Ellis (Bonnie); her brother-in-law, Spencer Ellis (Betsy); and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.
In addition to her father, Scarlett was preceded in death by her nephew, Richard Pearce.
The family will receive loved ones on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00–4:00 p.m., and immediately following the service at Jackson and Danielle's home.
Arrangements are by Sossamon Funeral Home of Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences may be shared at www.sossamonfuneralhome.com.
