Obituary

Sherry Kearson Harrell went to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by the love of her family, on January 29th, 2026.

Sherry was born and raised in Henderson, North Carolina, a place she always carried with her in heart and spirit. From an early age, she learned the values that would define her life—faith in God, devotion to family, hard work, and a deep sense of service to others. Those values never wavered and were evident in everything she did.

Sherry was a woman of strong and unwavering faith. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and lived each day as a reflection of that love. A true Christian woman, she faithfully attended church every Sunday, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served as a lay speaker for many years. She loved reading her Bible and sharing the Gospel, never hesitating to speak about God's goodness or encourage others in their walk of faith. Her faith was not only spoken—it was lived, quietly and consistently, through kindness, humility, and love.

Sherry dedicated 31 years of her life to serving the Creedmoor Police Department, where she worked in many different roles. Her commitment, reliability, and compassion left a lasting impact on her coworkers and community. She took pride in her work and believed deeply in serving others with integrity and respect. Her career was more than a job—it was another way she lived out her calling to care for people.

While she wore many titles throughout her life—daughter, wife, employee, teacher, servant of the church—her most cherished role was that of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The love of her life was her family. Her child, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, her deepest blessing, and her proudest accomplishment. How incredibly blessed they were to know her, to learn from her, and to be loved by her so completely.

Sherry had a heart that overflowed with love. She loved fiercely, unconditionally, and without hesitation. She never met a conversation she didn't enjoy—especially if it happened over the phone, where she could talk for hours and make you feel like the most important person in the world. Her voice brought comfort, laughter, and reassurance, and no one ever tired of hearing it.

She had a gift for the simple joys of life. She made the very best banana pudding—one that became legendary among family and friends—and she took such pride in sharing it with those she loved. She found happiness in church hymns, family gatherings, long talks, and being surrounded by the people who mattered most to her.

Sherry was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Edith Perdue Kearson and Bailey Louis Kearson, and by the love of her life, her husband, Jimmy Lee Harrell, Sr., whom she missed deeply and loved faithfully until the end.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. Reverend Johnny Yount and Pastor Daniel Blasky will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens in Henderson.

She is survived by a family who will forever treasure her memory, including her son, Jimmy Lee Harrell, Jr., and his wife, Ashley Harrell; her brother, Dan Kearson (Lynn); her grandchildren, Bailey Harrell (Monica) and Paige Harrell Hester (Chris); her great-grandchildren, Dawson Harrell, Brayden Harrell and Connor Hester; her niece, Melissa Kearson Honts (Dale); along with many beloved great-nieces and extended family members who loved her dearly.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford.

To know Sherry was to know kindness, faith, warmth, and love. She was steady, dependable, gentle, and strong all at once. She leaves behind a legacy of faith lived openly, love given freely, and family cherished deeply. Her influence will continue in every life she touched, every lesson she taught, and every prayer she whispered.

Though her absence will be deeply felt, her spirit remains present—in the hymns sung at church, in family stories told with smiles and tears, in banana pudding shared around the table, and in the hearts of those who loved her. Sherry Kearson Harrell was truly a remarkable woman, and her life was a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
