Thomas "Tommy" Carrington Huff, Sr. 82, of Oxford passed away, January 6, 2025 surrounded by family.
Born September 25, 1942, to the late Robert Churchful Huff, Sr. and Ruth Thomas Hicks Huff.
Tommy was a dedicated member of Trinity Crossroads Methodist Church where he was the treasurer and trustee of the cemetery, as well as cemetery maintenance and Sunday school teacher. Tommy worked in the 60's with Imperial Tobacco Company as well as W.A. Adams Tobacco Company. He was a tobacco farmer most of his life and also fumigated tobacco plant beds, where he met many fellow farmers. Tommy was a gentle, kind man who made many friends easily and had a laugh no one could forget. In 1968 he bought and ran a country grocery store and service station he ran for 33 years west of Oxford on Highway 158. At the store he made many cherished friends, young and old. During this time he also carried the Durham Morning Herald seven days a week for 14 years. When he retired from the store he took a job at the Berea convenience site for eight years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Crossroads Methodist Church. Pastor Jack Ruth will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Barbara Frazier Huff; two sons, Thomas Carrington Huff, Jr. (Marie) and Michael Wesley Huff (Pamela); one daughter, Kristie Diane Huff; two grandchildren, Samantha Eula Huff and Kaylee Ruth Huff; one brother, Winfred Toney Huff. He is also survived by his loving, faithful, and beloved dog "Cricket" who stayed by his side and took naps together in their favorite chair. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Churchful Huff, Jr. and Eugene Burnice "E.B." Huff and grandson, David Carrington Huff.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford.
