Valerie C. Long

Valerie Cornelius Long, 62 of Oxford, NC, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Halifax County, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Alexander and Carolyn Eugenia Dickenson.

She was a longtime member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church where she was a choir member. Valerie was also very active with the Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Hope Baptist Church. Conducted by Dr. Donnie Perkinson. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Public Fort Christian Church Cemetery in Red Oak, VA.

Survivors include her husband of twenty-nine years, Bernie C. Long; a stepdaughter, Amanda Long; two stepsons, Justin Long (Annabel) and Cameron Long (Laura); one granddaughter, Parker Long; two sister in laws, Meredith Harris (Bert) and Gwen Herod (Perry); two brother in laws, Patrick Clayton and Larry Long (Michelle); two special cousins, Ginger Yancey and Louis Pittard; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Brandon Tucker.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society, at www.recaps.org.
