Vergie Lynch Ellington 97, of Oxford, NC, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026, at Universal Healthcare in Oxford.

Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Lynch and Alma Wilson Lynch. She was the widow of Garland Lee Ellington.

Vergie was a member of West Oxford Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Oxford. Conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.

Survivors include one son, Garland "Keith" Ellington (Jeanne); two grandchildren, Michael Ray Dalton (Abi) and Elizabeth Fraley (Zach); one brother, Ken Murphy (Mary); as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Lee Ellington; and one brother, Charlie "C.T." Lynch.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. At other times they will be at the home of Keith and Jeanne Ellington.
Pallbearers will be Mike Ellington, David Ellington, Todd Ellington, Lee Harrell, Dennis Clayborne, Gary Williams and Michael Murphy.
A special thank you to her caregivers Beth, Bobbi and Sylvia for the compassionate care that you gave to Vergie when she was still at home, she loved each of you very much!
