William R. Elliott

He was the son of the late Bailey William Elliott and Malissa Vaughan Elliott and was the widower of Sylvia S. Elliott, to whom he was married for fifty-five years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Russell was a tobacco farmer for many years and, even after retiring from farming, he still enjoyed riding the county to see the tobacco fields. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends which included many conversations and meals at the Berea Mini Mart.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford and will be conducted by the Rev. Keith Williams. Interment will follow the service at Meadowview Memorial Park.
Survivors include a sister, Linda Tingen (James) of Oxford; nephews, Wayne Breedlove (Judy) of Butner, Dwight Owen (Marianne) of Sioux City, Iowa, Michael and Jeff Tingen (Bonita) of Oxford, a sister-in-law, Shelby Pruitt of Danville, Virginia, a brother-in-law, Grant Gardner of Walker, Iowa, and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Foy Breedlove, Margaret Cole, and Mae Gardner, and a niece, Diane Keith.
The family will receive friends at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and other times at the home of James and Linda Tingen.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials can be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford, NC 27565.
