William Ruffin Hayes III

William Ruffin Hayes III, 66, of Oxford passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

Born in Vance County on April 25, 1958, he was the son of the late William Ruffin Hayes Jr. and Barbara Ann Lockemy.

He was of the Baptist faith and retired from Butner Federal Prison.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, in the Chapel at Sossamon Funeral Home of Henderson at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Frank Sossamon will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens in Henderson.

Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Beverly Ross Hayes; one daughter, Bridget Hayes; two sons, Brian Hayes (Heather) and Brandon Hayes; three grandchildren, Katelyn Hayes, Christopher Hayes and Brianna Hayes; one great grandchild, Parker Hayes; one sister, Pam Woodlief (Stan) and other extended family members. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Hayes.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Henderson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Baker, Jason Baker, Jeffrey Ross, Mike Williamson, Christopher Hayes and Brandon Hayes.
