Obituary

William Lewis Vaughan (Popcorn), 76, passed away peacefully in his home in Cornwall, North Carolina on Friday, March 6, 2026.

He was born in Granville County, North Carolina on July 19, 1949, to Raymond Lewis Vaughan and Willie Belle Bray Vaughan.

W.L. proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his time in service, he served as a wheel vehicle repairman where he achieved the rank of SP4.  For his service and dedication, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Expert Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar (M-14).  W.L. worked for A&P and later retired from Food Lion after serving as a butcher for forty-eight years. W.L. was also a long time member of the Cornwall Hunting Club. He had a passion for fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed being at home, dogs, and baseball/softball.  W.L. was a generous man who enjoyed helping others. He always had a photo in his wallet, coat, or at his kitchen table to appreciate his family and friends and their accomplishments.

Due to weather conditions the memorial service will be held in the sanctuary, at Mt. Creek Baptist Church on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Terry Howard will officiate.

Survivors include his son, William Carlton Vaughan (Trina); one granddaughter, Aubrey Vaughan; two grandsons, William Vaughan and Wesley Vaughan; one sister, Tate Marie Vaughan Vauls. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of thirteen years, Rachel Huff Vaughan and one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Vaughan Garrett.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 16, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Mt. Creek Baptist Church.
