Obituary

Wilma Dorsey Preddy, 97, of Oxford, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 20th, 2025. Born October 10,1928 in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Gladys Dorsey. She was a loving wife to Rancher "Doc" for 73 years and an amazing mother to three daughters.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Doc, her in-laws Wayne Littleton and Rose Leigh Hobgood Preddy, her brother Edward Dorsey (Janet Preddy Dorsey), and her daughter Cynthia Rose Spivey (Rick). She is survived in life by her sister Julia Kathryne Dorsey Palmer, her daughters, Cheryl Annette Hobgood (Jimmy) and Michelle Dorsey Smith (Tim), nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Wilma attended Peace College where she earned a degree in Business. She worked at the Tobacco Research Center and Granville Hospital in Oxford. She married the love of her life in 1953 and they enjoyed the first years of marriage in Hawaii before moving to Virginia to raise a family. All three girls were raised in Franconia, Virginia where the family were active members of Franconia Baptist Church.

After raising the girls, the family moved back home to Oxford, North Carolina, where she was an active member of Oxford Baptist Church. As one of the long-standing members of the church, she was active in the choir and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, and actively participated in Vacation Bible School and many other groups and activities.

Wilma was a homemaker who loved hosting and always had a pitcher of sweet tea or coffee ready to share with others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and liked cooking, reading, and embroidering. She shared her husband's green thumb and enjoyed time in the vegetable garden and was known for making pickles and relish. She was a kind, loving soul and she will be forever missed.

A visitation and funeral service will be held on October 22, 2025 at Oxford Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at 11 am in the Family Life Center and then the funeral service will follow at 12 pm in the sanctuary. The burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery after the service.

We welcome others to join us in remembering her life. Donations can be made in her honor to Oxford Baptist Church.

The Preddy family is being assisted by Sossamon Funeral Home, 106 Clement Ave, Oxford, NC 27565.
