Wilma Lee Blackwell Tunstall, 88, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at Duke Regional Hospital.
Wilma was a resident of Granville County. She was born and raised in Mountain Creek. She met the love her life, William "Bill" Tunstall, while working at Williams Drugstore. It was love at first sight and they were wed shortly after. Their marriage was one for the books with lots of happy memories and the blessing of two children that were their world. Wilma served over 30 years at John Umstead Hospital where she made many friends. Wilma was known for her work ethic and was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
Wilma was a long-time member of First Baptist of Butner. She was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and was always willing to serve. She loved her church family and her community. Wilma always extended a welcoming hand and her mission was to let others know about Christ.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Butner. Conducted by Rev. Jim Shelly. Interment will follow at Peace's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her children Catherine Corn (David) and Troy Tunstall (Renee), six grandchildren-Katie Green (Buddy), Whitney Harris (Aaron), Alye Corn, Heather Tunstall, Sam Shumate, and Caleb Shumate, eight great-grandchildren- Wyatt and Nicholas Green, Jacob, Charlie, and Annie Kate Harris, and Jaycee, Reece, and Colton Briggs. She is also survived by her devoted sister Evelyn Elliot and many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee and Bessie Greenway Blackwell, her brothers Howard and Rueben Blackwell, her sisters Foy Hart and Adell Gill, and her loving husband, William "Bill" Tunstall.
The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and at the home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
