James Allen Nunn, 71, of Macon, NC died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home.
Born in Evansville, IN, he was the son of the late Howard Stubbs Nunn and Nancy Ellen Wilson Nunn.
He received his B.S. of Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and was a United States Army Veteran where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from January 1970 – May 1971. He served as a Recon Team Leader in the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observation Group. For his service he received two Bronze Star Metals and one Air Metal.
His mining engineering work for Frontier Kemper and Precision Mine Repair took him around the U.S. - from Indiana and Colorado mines to Oahu's Hwy 3. He also managed projects on a dam in China and hydroelectric power plants in India.
He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid storyteller. He especially enjoyed trading tales with his fellow Vietnam veterans.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Patterson (Robert) and Kasey Smith (Darren); six grandchildren, Anna Claire Patterson, John Patterson, Samuel Patterson, Rebecca Smith, Judah Smith and Lucas Smith; one sister, Kathryn Scheidler (Mark); one brother, Howard Nunn Jr. (Ginger); and six nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Virginia Nunn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301 , Cincinnati, OH 45250 .
Due to COVID-19 concerns, those planning to attend the service will be required to wear a face covering and are asked to adhere to CDC guidelines regarding social distancing.
